God Bless You, Mrs. King

Some of you have been following the story of Snooky and Mrs. King and the followup to it Snooky's Last Goodbye.
We actually took Snooky, AKA Princess, one additional time to see Mrs. King. She had better mental awareness this last time we saw her three weeks ago. After a few minutes she remembered her old friend and rubbed on Snooky. We gave her another photo of Snooky to put on her wall. She already had four of Snooky and one of a butterfly that Mrs. King took hanging across from her bed. We had a very nice visit with her and told her all of the things we were doing to give Snooky a good place to live.
She was very much aware of her condition as she asked us to write down anything important about Snooky so she could read it later and remember it. We assured her that we would keep her updated through one of her friends.
That was three weeks ago. Shortly after our last visit Mrs. King's health began to fail. The nurses think she may have had a mild stroke. She became more and more unresponsive but there wasn't anything else medically that could be done. On Thursday she roused long enough to tell her friend that this isn't worth it and she didn't want to fight any more. This afternoon her friend called to tell us that Mrs King passed away peacefully at the nursing home. She is going to be cremated and her ashes placed in one of the areas where she took her nature photographs. Every time we look at Princess we will think of Mrs. King, the love she had for her furkid, and the fragility and shortness of life. Snooky just knows that things are different. She is a special cat and I hope she likes it here with her new parents. Goodbye Mrs. King. We will take good care of your little girl.

So sad... It's nice to know that she still remembered Snooky, and was peaceful right to the end.
Mrs. King and Snooky have both been very fortunate to know you. I wish there were more people like you.
This story makes me think a bit about my grandmother. She loved her kitty so much. When she died, the urn of her cat's ashes was buried with her, unbeknowst to the funeral director. She had saved the ashes for years, and we knew her most fervent burial wish.
